Percentage means "per hundred". It's a way of expressing a number as a fraction of 100.

X% = X/100 = X ÷ 100

Example: 25% = 25/100 = 0.25 = 1/4

Golden Rule:Percentage problems are all about identifying the BASE (the number we're taking percentage OF).

Formula:

1/2 = 50%, 1/3 = 33.33%, 1/4 = 25%, 1/5 = 20%, 1/6 = 16.67%, 1/7 = 14.28%, 1/8 = 12.5%

Example:

If price increases by 1/4, what is the percentage increase?

1/4 = 25%. So price increased by 25%. This one-step conversion saves 30+ seconds!
